How we verify
Our entire value is accuracy. Here is exactly how every spec on GarageDex is built, checked, and dated, and what our status labels mean.
1. The vehicle list comes from NHTSA
We build the year / make / model / engine list from the U.S. government's public NHTSA vPIC vehicle database, so the vehicles themselves are authoritative.
2. Specs are checked against authoritative sources
Each spec is checked against authoritative manufacturer or retailer fitment data (and the BCI group-size standard), and cross-checked across multiple sources wherever they disagree. When a value is confirmed, we mark it Verified. When sources conflict or we can't confirm it, we flag it and default to the OEM / owner's-manual value rather than guess.
3. Every page shows its source and date
We publish the source we used and the date we last checked each page. If a spec isn't confirmed yet, it's labeled pending verification and you should confirm it before relying on it.
4. Always confirm before you buy
Group sizes can vary by engine, trim, or start-stop equipment. We surface those cases, but the final word is the label on your current battery and your owner's manual. We're a reference, not a substitute for checking your car.
Why GarageDex is free
GarageDex is free to use and always will be. We make money from small commissions when you buy a part through some of the "where to buy" links, at no extra cost to you. We show the same specs to everyone regardless of who pays us, and our answers aren't influenced by any retailer. When the best option is a free in-store service or a retailer that doesn't pay us, we'll still point you there and earn nothing.
